Thousands of
tons of emergency aid were airlifted and shipped into Georgia to
help feed and clothe people displaced from their homes by a
growing civil conflict. As the war continued, the
Salvation Army established feeding sites around Georgia,
providing food to over 200,000 people monthly.

In November 1992,
in response to a growing humanitarian crisis, Georgia became the 98th
country in the Salvation Army's world of ministry.

International
Leader General Paul Rader and other Salvation Army personnel
meet in 1999 with Head of State, Edward Shevardnadze to discuss
the Salvation Army's ministry in Georgia.
But as with Salvation Army ministry in all corners of
the world, the humanitarian response is only a part of the Army's
holistic ministry, caring for the needs of the soul as well as the
body. Salvation Army Corps (Church and Community Centers) continue
to minister to communities in Tbilisi and other parts of Georgia.
Those who enter through the doors of the Salvation
Army will find a place of spiritual and physical rest; they will find a
listening ear; and they will find friends willing to help without
condition or discrimination.
