Feeding
Kitchens - Vulnerable Pensioners
Since
1999, partnered with the United States Agency
for International Development, The Salvation Army
Georgia Region has been providing up to 180,000
two-course hot meals a month to vulnerable lonely
pensioners in several regions of Georgia. Current
funding supports the provision of a combined total
of 4,000 meals each weekday in Tbilisi, Rustavi,
Gori, Kutaisi and Jvari. With the average
monthly state pension at around a value of US$7 a month,
this program is vital to the welfare of many pensioners
who have no other means of support. |

Privately
Funded Feeding Programs
Through
private funding, the Salvation Army Georgia Region
continues to feed hundreds of vulnerable people each day
at feeding centers located in Salvation Army Corps
(churches) and other locations. These services can
only be provided as funding allows. Currently,
soup kitchens can be found in Tbilisi (2 sites), Rustavi (2
sites), and Lagodekhi. |

Vocational
Training Center/
Computer
Learning Centers
In
cooperation with the United States Department of
Agriculture, the Salvation Army Georgia Region
established a Vocational Training Center, allowing young
people to enter the 6 month course to gain education and
practical skills for the workplace. Courses
provided included secretarial training, computer,
building and plumbing, and accounting. Additionally 4
satellite computer learning centers were established in
Lagodekhi, Gori, Tskaltubo and Jvari, providing access
to computer training in rural locations. The
programs are currently seeking ongoing funding. |
